What is CBD Oil?

CBD oil is an oil that contains concentrations of CBD. The cannabis plant has two main components, cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC is what makes you feel high, while CBD is non-psychoactive - which means it won’t make you feel high. CBD can be extracted from both cannabis and hemp which are the same species of plant. The difference between the two is that to be designated as “hemp,” the cannabis plant must be comprised of less than 0.3 percent THC. In states where cannabis is legal, CBD can be derived from cannabis or hemp plants and is made from the whole plant. In states where cannabis is illegal, CBD oil will be made from hemp only, which means only the stalks of the hemp plant.

I supplement with CBD oil daily while traveling because I supplement with CBD oil daily while at home. Plain and simple, I like to maintain a healthy and consistent morning routine 365 days of the year regardless of where I am in the world. Here’s what I bring with me while traveling, always, as well as keep on hand at home for my everyday morning health routine. These are small, simple and easy to carry products that act as powerful component for my longterm and preventative health.

(Drop them under my tongue and allow them to soak in for 30 seconds before swallowing)

(Drop it in a small glass of water first thing in the morning)

  • 1 Serving of Premier Research Labs D3 Serum

(Drop it in a small glass of water first thing in the morning)

(Usually blend into my morning smoothie or simply stir or shake it up in a glass of water with lemon and ice while traveling)

(I just pop these babies like candy, honestly. Swallow with water or fresh juice if needed)

(I stir this into a BIG glass of water and ice before consuming. Ideally, squeeze in some fresh lemon juice and a dash of cinnamon to neutralize the acidic taste.)

CBD is a miracle worker when it comes to in flight anxiety. I speak more about CBD + anxiety in depth on a previous blog post, here.

If you have anxiety and/or you're a nervous traveler, consider using CBD oil to help ease your symptoms. Since beginning my research on CBD over 6 months ago, I’ve come across a few articles and testimonies online that claim CBD is the "liquid Xanax from Mother Nature," which I must say, I have to personally agree with.

In a 2011 study, scientists wanted to study the effects of CBD on people with SAD. The scientists selected 24 people with this condition who had never received treatment for SAD then divided participants into two groups. One group received 600 mg of CBD while the control group received a placebo. The scientists then asked study participants to take part in a simulated public speaking test while researchers measured blood pressure, heart rate and other measurements of physiological and psychological stress.

The CBD group showed significantly reduced anxiety, cognitive impairment and discomfort in their speech performance. In comparison, those in the placebo group presented higher anxiety, cognitive impairment and discomfort.

CBD and other cannabis products have played a huge role in my recovery from anxiety and insomnia. NuLeaf Naturals CBD and daily meditation/pranayama exercises are the first recommendation I share with any friends, family or private clients who are dealing with anxiety or depression. Use CBD to create an environment for yourself that allows inner reflection and personal growth, and actively participate in the self-work and it requires to eliminate these harmful thoughts from your reality.

I reccomend taking 10-20 drops of NuLeaf CBD Oil underneath your tongue (and allowing it to sit there for 30-60 seconds) approximately 1 hour before your travel begins, or as soon as you experience any feelings of un-comfortability or anxiousness.

Aviophobia, the fear of flying, is perhaps the most common (and frightening) case of anxious behavior during flight. Being thousands of feet up in the air, traveling at hundreds of miles per hour while not having any control of the plane itself is unnatural and uncomfortable for many of us. Supplementing with CBD will help you relax into a state of calm, controlled breathing and overall bodily functions.

I reccomend taking 10-20 drops of NuLeaf CBD Oil underneath your tongue (and allowing it to sit there for 30-60 seconds) approximately 1 hour before your flight takes off.

In the case of nausea, CBD oil is an effective treatment because the source of this physical manifestation (of nausea or unsettled stomach) is often linked to a root cause like stress or anxiety, depression, or pain-related disorders. Previous articles and information stated about establishes the efficacy of CBD for these specific ailments. Nausea can also be related to motion-induced illness, chemotherapy treatment, or palatability episodes (a response to specific foods while eating). CBD is shown to be highly effective for these treatments as well. This is especially helpful for individuals who fall ill while traveling or experience motion sickness while flying, driving or experiencing the beauty of a cheap, crowded public bus.

Even if you don’t get anxious when you fly or travel, CBD can still be a great carry-on. Whether you are just looking to relax, or enjoy a restful nap on a long flight without taking a prescription drug, the usefulness of CBD truly cannot be overstated.

CBD oil is natural and completely legal to purchase and consume (as long as it is specifically hemp-derived), meaning no medical marijuana card is required. But to ensure passing security is a breeze, stay within TSA requirements (3.4 oz. or smaller) and read the labels before packing it. Most CBD oils should be only composed of CBD. Some CBD edibles like sour-suckers or chocolates, for example, might be CBD-dominant but contain enough THC to be flagged at security. Remember, THC classifies as an illegal compound under federal law regardless of whether you have a valid medical card or if it's legal in the state that you're traveling to. So be sure to check the CBD to THC ratios on the product label. 0.3% THC or less and you’re good to go!

Short answer: Yes, it is legal to fly with CBD in the USA and other 40+ countries around the world. As long as your CBD oil is derived from hemp, it’s perfectly legal to carry your CBD oil across state lines, regardless of whether or not marijuana is legal in that state.

If you are planning on bringing a CBD tincture as a carry-on, remember that all liquids must be under 3.4 ounces in volume.

Since you will be crossing from one country to another, you can rightfully expect tighter security measures at airports and other transportation headquarters. Some countries are more relaxed than others when it comes to CBD, while others are without proper technology and set guidelines to determine if your CBD oil is derived from hemp or cannabis.

The TSA will say it is never advised to fly internationally with any potentially illegal substance, even if it is a non-psychoactive product such as CBD.

I say.. do a quick google search first. Simply type in “Is CBD legal in _____ ?” and educate yourself before packing your bags.

I know a *friend* who has safely (and easily!) brought her CBD oil with her in checked or carry on luggage to over 11 counties in the past 11 months…

Cannabis and other hemp products may be starting to gain recognition for combating a variety of diseases and ailments, but the sad reality is, it still bears the negative stigma that has jeopardized and tarnished its reputation for decades.

As legalization further spreads around the world, we will see more lenient regulations both in the US and overseas, especially regarding CBD and medicinal cannabis users. But for the time being, it would be best to simply abide by the laws that are currently in place…. or just create your own and then abide by those. You decide. I won’t judge you. Nor will my friend.

This will be a decision I leave up to you, the parent, to make after you have done your researched and become educated on the widespread health benefits of CBD oil. I do not currently have any children, but do strongly and confidently feel that the benefits of CBD oil aren’t limited to adults only. Children can benefit tremendously from CBD oil, (as well as breast-feeding mamas!) with regard to immunity, health, energy levels, sleep aid, pain, anxiety or jet lag.

My sister and brother in law have been feeding my nephew Kainoa (11 months old) NuLeaf Naturals CBD oil since he was 6 months. They give him 5 drops a day, every day, under his tongue before a bottle or breast feed and he absolutely adores it. CBD has helped tremendously when it comes to regulating his sleep cycle and relieving him of pain while teething and alleviate symptoms when fighting off his first cold.

My sister also supplemented with CBD oil while breastfeeding (as have thousands of moms online) and experienced incredible results while breastfeeding and healing postpartum.

If your little one feels over-stimulated or sensitive to the hustle and bustle of traveling or flying in airplanes, considering giving him or her 5 drops of CBD orally (or in a juice or snack!) 30 minutes before flying or traveling. Remember, there is no THC in CBD oil, so one is getting high or experiencing psycho-active symptoms here! You can expect a more relaxed, calm and quieter traveling companion.

CBD Bliss Balls

The Perfect Pre-Flight Treat

  • ¾ cup cashew nuts (raw or roasted works! I prefer raw)

  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil, melted

  • 50 Drops NuLeaf CBD Oil

  • ⅓ cup almond flour

  • ⅓ cup unsweetened shredded coconut

  • 3 teaspoons raw cacao powder

  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

  • 2 tablespoons cacao nibs

  1. Place cashew nuts in your high-speed blender and process for a few minutes until you get a thick nut-butter paste.

  2. Add in the melted coconut oil and CBD oil drops. Blend a bit more until you get a thick but smooth macadamia or cashew nut butter. If needed, add a bit more coconut oil until you get the texture required.

  3. In a large bowl, combine the freshly blended nut butter, almond flour, unsweetened shredded coconut, ground cinnamon and vanilla extract and mix until you get a mixture that’s the texture of cookie dough.

  4. If you’d like it sweeter you can blend in some medjool dates or stir in a little maple syrup at this time.

  5. Fold in the cacao nibs until they are evenly distributed.

  6. Scoop one large tablespoon of dough and roll it into a small ball between your palms. You should be able to get 10 CBD bliss balls.

  7. Optional * Meaning… you should probably do it. Roll the balls in finely shredded coconut or hemp seeds.

  8. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week, or in the freezer for up to a month.

  9. Pack them to go next time you’re headed to the airport before a long flight, long car ride or chaotic environment that may trigger any anxiousness or stress. They’ll be perfectly fine to enjoy 1-2 days outside of the refrigerator. (Remember, there’s no animal products included this recipe, so nothing to worry about getting food poisoning from, but your recipe may include raw blended nuts, which can go rancid after they oxidize outside of refrigeration for a few hours.
