MAKING JUICE WITH OUT A JUICER
A little over a year ago I began to introduce juicing into my daily (well 4-5x a week) routine. The health benefits were both immediate and dramatic. I now juice as much as possible and absolutely love finding quiet time in the morning to wake up, wash, peel and prep my produce and create a healing, healthful morning beverage that instantly floods my body and vital nutrients and minerals. I find the process of using my hands and five senses to juice very meditative and personal. I express gratitude when juicing (and drinking juice) because I am so sure of the benefits these beverages have on my mind, body and soul for the long term. Wash, Chop and Peel all juice ingredients as needed. If your produce is not local or USDA Organic, I recommend that you wash and peel before consumption. Place all ingredients in a high powered blender and blend until smooth, adding a splash of fresh Citrus Juice, (Lemon, Lime, Orange, Grapefruit) Coconut Water, Filtered Water or Fresh Tea if needed to get things moving (I usually add about 1/4 - 1 Cup depending on how much Juice I'd like.)
Next, pour the juice mixture from the blender into a large nut mylk bag, cheese cloth or fine mesh strainer (I'll show all three below, but the mesh strainers are my preferred piece of equipment.) As you pour this mixture through the strainer, the fruit and veggie pulp will be collected in the strainer and the fresh juice will fill the bowl below. Use a rubber spatula to press the pulp down and squeeze all of the juice out if necessary. You can let the filled strainer stand for 5 minutes or gently shake it with your hand so you get the most juice possible.
Discard pulp (ideally in a compost! Or to be used again in a new recipe - I.e carrot cake, veggie burgers or bliss balls!) and pour your juice into a serving glass. Serve on the rocks & Drink immediately for best taste and nutrient absorbance. If you aren't able to drink your delicious, all natural, healing juice right away, store in an air tight container in the fridge for up to 48 hours.
